Massive 75-Foot Flames Engulf Clinton Garage, Leaving One Hospitalized

A dramatic scene unfolded in Clinton, Illinois, on Wednesday morning when a fire broke out, sending flames soaring up to 75 feet high and resulting in one person being hospitalized.

The Clinton Fire Department, in a statement on Facebook, shared that they were alerted to the blaze at 10:30 a.m. Firefighters, along with first-alarm auto aid units, rushed to the intersection of Main and Wilson Streets after reports surfaced about a detached garage being ablaze. As they departed the station, heavy, dark smoke was already visible in the distance, reported by Engine Company 2.

Upon arrival at 10:35 a.m., Engine 2 discovered both a garage and a camper trailer completely engulfed by the fire. Strong winds contributed to the towering flames, posing a potential threat to nearby buildings, officials noted.

The firefighters initiated their response by using a deck gun from the truck to launch an initial attack on the fire. This was followed by deploying hand lines, which ultimately succeeded in extinguishing the blaze.

The fire did not damage any other structures that were nearby.

Officials said one person was able to get out of the burning building; they were transported to the hospital by DeWitt County Ambulance and were later released. No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters cleared the scene by 1 p.m. This fire is under investigation by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
