Massive Gifford House Fire Leaves Home Destroyed: Firefighters from Multiple Departments Respond

A devastating fire on Saturday has left a two-story residence in Gifford, Illinois, completely destroyed. The incident occurred on 3500 N., prompting a swift response from local emergency services.

Gifford Fire Chief Brodie Crozier reported that the initial call came in after smoke was seen billowing from the roof. As the Gifford Fire Protection District made its way to the scene, the severity of the fire escalated, leading to the involvement of additional firefighters from neighboring areas, including Rantoul, Ludlow, and Bluegrass. Arrow Ambulance also joined the effort to provide support.

Upon arrival, the responding teams were met with heavy smoke pouring out of the home, prompting an urgent request for further assistance from the Paxton and Thomasboro fire departments. Meanwhile, the St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District was placed on standby at the Gifford Fire Station, ready to offer further aid if necessary.

Chief Crozier explained that attempts to combat the blaze were hindered by the deteriorating condition of the house, leading officials to make the difficult decision to allow the structure to burn rather than risk the safety of the firefighters. As a result, the home was rendered a complete loss.

Crozier added that no injuries were reported. Now, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office SIFT team is investigating how the fire started, but Crozier said, “it does not appear to be suspicious.”
