SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Saturday, the nationwide movement known as ‘No Kings’ held its third series of rallies, drawing significant participation across the United States.

In the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire, numerous gatherings took place as part of the more than 3,000 organized events. Among these, downtown Savannah hosted the largest rally in the region. Emmett Park, located off Bay Street, became a sea of demonstrators who gathered to hear various speakers deliver their messages.

After the speeches concluded, participants embarked on a march that wound through Lincoln, Broughton, and Bull streets, culminating with a final motivational address. The event was orchestrated with the assistance of Savannah Indivisible.

“We’ve teamed up with the American Civil Liberties Union and have brought in several other local organizations,” explained Kris Mecholsky, treasurer and co-founder of Savannah Indivisible.

Mecholsky also noted that attendance has been growing with each successive event.

“For the past year, increasing numbers of people have been coming out as they kind of become aware of all the actions that are happening, as they become aware of how horribly they’re affected by this administration’s policies.”

One of the speakers during the event was Brian Bryant, the international president for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Union.

He told which issues caused him and approximately 200 of his union members to attend the event.

“Many different issues; from his policy on immigration, from his policy on trade, from his policy on tariffs, to going to war with Iran without congressional approval. It’s all of those items,” Bryant said. “It’s not who we are as a country. We’re a country that has laws, has a constitution, and it mandates that the president of the United States follow those.”

Another speaker was Christian Wise Smith, a democratic candidate for the State of Georgia Labor Commissioner. He detailed why it’s necessary for voters to make their voices heard.

“Our democracy is at stake right now,” Wise Smith said. “If we don’t step up and fight for it, we’re going to lose it. This is super important for all of us.”

He added, “The message that I want to send today is that we have to start voting for people who are willing to see us, who are willing to vote for humanity. We can’t vote for people who want to be kings and their minions.  We’ve got to stand up for our democracy, and that’s why I’m out here. That’s why so many people are here today.”

reached out for comment from the Chatham County Republican Party, but has not received a response at this time.

Other Coastal Empire protest locations included Rincon and Statesboro.

In the Lowcountry, multiple protests were held. The Beaufort rally was estimated to have over 500 people in attendance and began at Beaufort City Hall. Following a demonstration, some attendees marched to the Beaufort Waterfront Park.

On Hilton Head Island, hundreds more filled both sides of William Hilton Parkway to participate in the nationwide movement.
