MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Mattoon is investing in license plate readers.

City council members voted yes Tuesday night on spending $69,000 over two years for 12 cameras.

The mayor says the council got the idea after seeing how well the cameras worked in other cities, including Charleston and Decatur.
