(NEXSTAR) – Is McDonald’s holding out on us?
Last month, McDonald’s finally put Snack Wraps back on the menu after a years-long absence, no doubt filling a chicken-shaped hole in the hearts of longtime fans. But while McDonald’s debuted two varieties of its Snack Wraps in July (both made with crispy chicken), they stopped short of bringing back several other discontinued variations on the item.
“I loved the Big Mac snack wrap. Unfortunately that wasn’t brought back,” one Redditor said of the discontinued Mac Snack Wrap, which featured half a burger patty and appeared on the McDonald’s menu for several years in the early 2010s.

Others lamented the absence of wraps from the Angus Snack Wrap line (featuring half an angus burger patty), which came in such flavors as Chipotle BBQ Bacon or Mushroom & Swiss. Fans also questioned why McDonald’s didn’t bring back any of its grilled chicken Snack Wraps, which were offered in several varieties during their time on the menu.

“I was originally excited about the return, until I found out that there wasn’t a grilled variation,” one Redditor wrote. “I do not want a [McCrispy] strip in a wrap. Bring back the OG!!”
When announcing the return of the newest Snack Wrap iterations, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kemczynski didn’t initially mention which wraps would be coming back. In the months leading up to their debut, McDonald’s focused its marketing only on the crispy chicken varieties.
There may be obvious reasons for the absence of other varieties. McDonald’s executives in recent years have made it clear that the company intended to expand its McCrispy line (which originally consisted of sandwiches) to include chicken tenders. And since the original fried chicken Snack Wraps were the longest-lived of the earlier Snack Wrap line, McDonald’s might have identified an opportunity to reintroduce its Snack Wraps (now made with McCrispy tenders) to nostalgia-hungry customers.
A Reddit user who self-identified as a crew trainer for a Michigan restaurant also doubted that McDonald’s would ever bring back the grilled variety, claiming it took too long to cook and would get “old and rubbery pretty quick.”
A McDonald’s representative did not comment on why the grilled chicken variety was discontinued, nor why the Big Mac or Angus versions (which can be replicated with current McDonald’s ingredients) are not offered alongside the new Snack Wrap offerings.
If fans are that upset about it, though, they might want to speak up.
“Right now, we’re excited to bring fans the Ranch and Spicy Snack Wrap,” a representative for McDonald’s said. “We’ll continue listening to our fans when it comes to menu innovations.”
