BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. () — Bulloch County’s new emergency management director has taken over the reins.
“I’m very confident in what I do,” said Corey Kemp, Bulloch County’s new Emergency Management director.
Starting in April, he’s calling all the shots for emergency planning and communications.
“We’re still trying to wrap our head around some of the ways that the office used to do things so we’re still learning but right now our motto is to prepare to react,” said Kemp.
Kemp’s position is new to the department. Previously it was managed by the Public Safety director and an assistant. Now he works under the PS director.
He’ll be there for when the hurricanes hit. He says he’s also keeping an eye on factories and plants to the southside and making plans in case of school shootings.
“This office going forward will now prepare for emergencies,” said Kemp. “We will respond as we get them because you know we can’t prevent them.”
Kemp has over 20 years of experience in this field. Sixteen of those years he spent with Bulloch County EMT. He says his experience working at the top with Georgia EMA gives him a helpful perspective here. He says he wants to create plans for the county to work through a potential disaster.
“Just in case we do have an emergency we want to build back better,” said Kemp.
Soon, he says their website will have tips for disaster safety, like how to prepare for not having power or how to pack an emergency bag.
