Thomson, GA – Sydney Durbin is dedicated to educating her 7th-grade students about the wonders of life science, exploring the intricacies of the natural world and its diverse organisms. Her passion for the subject makes her classroom an engaging and dynamic learning environment.
“We’re delving into Punnett squares,” she explains. “We’re examining how different traits, whether in humans, flowers, or animal fur colors, can be predicted and calculated to understand the probability of various outcomes.”
Mrs. Durbin approaches each lesson with a deep-seated enthusiasm and dedication.
“I’ve loved science ever since I was a child. Biology was always my favorite, so being able to teach it now is incredibly fulfilling,” she shares.
Her students hold a special place in her heart, as she strives to inspire them with the same love for science that has fueled her own journey.
“I have 3-kids myself, one of which is their age. So it just feels like they’re part of my little family. They’re my babies too at this age.”
And she has strong relationships with each one. A connection that pays off in and and out of the classroom.
“Even just sitting down and talking to them,” she says. “If you see that they’re having a rough day, that can make the world of difference to them, because they may not have that person at home to do it.”
