SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — With 17 already picked, the prosecution and defense in the soon-to-begin Megan Boswell murder trial will continue screening potential jurors on Tuesday.
Jury selection began on Monday and will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Monday saw several potential jurors excused due to their familiarity or exposure to Boswell’s case through social media or news.
Another hurdle Judge Jim Goodwin and the legal teams have faced is finding jurors who can be sequestered for weeks, as the trial is expected to take more than two weeks. The sequestered jury, which Goodwin noted will be the first one in Sullivan County in 15-20 years, will have limited access to their phones and televisions during the trial to avoid influencing their verdict.
Of the 17 jurors chosen on Monday, 10 were women and seven were men.
Boswell’s trial will begin when a full jury is selected and sworn in. News Channel 11 will stream the entire trial and provide in-depth coverage each day.
Boswell faces numerous charges in the death of her 15-month-old daughter Evelyn Boswell, including one count of first-degree murder and two counts of felony murder. Evelyn Boswell was the subject of an AMBER Alert in 2020 before her remains were found on a family member’s property in March 2020.
Boswell is the only person who has ever been charged in her daughter’s death.
