GEORGIA () – Three individuals have received federal prison sentences following their convictions for engaging in mail theft in the Augusta area.
The U.S. Department of Justice for the Southern District of Georgia reports that Joshua Mister Holmes, 21, hailing from Miami, Florida, and Coleshia Carter, 22, from East Point, Georgia, faced sentencing after admitting guilt to charges of Theft of Mail, Bank Fraud, and Aggravated Identity Theft. Meanwhile, Torrance Urban Miller, 49, also from Miami, Florida, was sentenced after pleading guilty to Theft of Mail.
Court documents and testimony revealed that Holmes, Carter, and Miller orchestrated a scheme focused on stealing mail, specifically targeting business checks from U.S. postal boxes in the Augusta area over a period stretching from January 2023 to January 2024.
These documents indicate that the trio took the stolen business checks and used them to forge fake checks. These counterfeit checks were subsequently deposited into the accounts of their accomplices, from which they would withdraw the funds.
