SAVANNAH, Ga. () — After splitting the first two games of the season-opening doubleheader against the University of Fort Lauderdale at Tiger Field, the Savannah State baseball lost the series finale, 23-7, on Feb. 3.
The game was shortened because of the lop-sided score.
The end result is surprising after the first two games were both decided by a run. Fort Lauderdale took the first contest, 6-5. Savannah State prevailed later that afternoon, 3-2.
Errors and pitching tell the story of the loss. Fort Lauderdale plated 23 runs only just 12 hits. Savannah State gave up 13 walks, hit five batters and tallied five errors.
Savannah State will have a little over a week off to fix the mistakes.
Their next outing is their first road game of the year. They travel to Hardeeville, S.C. to face USC-Beaufort on Feb. 11.
