Monday Morning Fire Causes Damage to Urbana Mobile Home

URBANA, Ill. — Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze that erupted in a mobile home located in Urbana.

The incident occurred at 106 Dewey Street, where according to Edge-Scott Fire Protection District Chief Steve Thuney, the Urbana Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene. Upon arrival, they were met with flames that had already breached the west side of the roof.

The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes. However, the damage inflicted is extensive, resulting in the displacement of the two residents. The American Red Cross has stepped in to provide support, and family members have confirmed to WCIA that the displaced individuals will temporarily reside with them.

Chief Thuney noted that although some belongings might be recoverable, the smoke and water damage could potentially result in the mobile home being declared a total loss.

The initial investigation indicated the fire was accidental. Thuney said one of the residents fell asleep while cooking oil. Everyone got out safely, however.

The Urbana Fire Department and the Edge-Scott Fire Protection District were supported on the scene by the Savoy Fire Department, St. Joe Fire Department, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Carle and Arrow Ambulance.
