Chatham mother accused of killing baby pleads guilty to murder

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A Chatham County mother has been sentenced after she pled guilty to the murder of her infant in early March.

Jennifer Cooper pled guilty to murder and possession of a controlled substance, court documents report. She was arrested after her 2-month-old, Randy Taylor Jr., was found dead in August of 2023 at a home on Quacco Road.

Cooper was sentenced to eight years to be served in confinement and 12 years on probation.

Police said both the child and the mother tested positive for methamphetamine, according to toxicology reports.

A detective testified in Oct. 2023 that suspicious injuries were found on the baby’s neck and back, there was swelling near his eyes, blood on the baby’s face and an indention on top of the head.

Cooper previously pled not guilty.

spoke to Danny Taylor, the baby’s uncle, a few days after baby Randy was found dead. He told us that he came out of his room around 10:40 p.m. that night and saw Cooper holding an unresponsive baby Randy on the couch.
