UPDATE, 8:48 A.M. – According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, one person has died after an accident that caused part of Highway 23 to be closed to traffic.
Deputies say they responded to a motor vehicle crash wit injuries on Highway 23 between Jack Delaigle Road and Hancock Landing Road on Monday morning around 6:27 A.M.
According to the initial investigation, a motorcycle driver was traveling westbound on Highway 23 and was struck on its left side by a large deer that entered the roadway from the south shoulder, and the impact caused the driver of the motorcycle to lose control and fall into the westbound lane causing the motorcycle driver to continue off the north shoulder of the roadway.
Authorities state that the motorcycle driver was then struck by a pickup truck that was also traveling westbound.
According to authorities, the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office states that this is an ongoing investigation.
BURKE COUNTY, Ga. () – Burke County authorities are on the scene of a multi vehicle wreck with serious injuries causing a part of Highway 23 to be shut down.
According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Highway 23 between Hancock Landing and Jack Delaigle Road is currently shut down as deputies and EMA crews are responding to a traffic accident with injuries.
Authorities are asking motorists to avoid the area and to use an alternate route.
