In an unexpected development from Moweaqua, Illinois, the village’s police chief has stepped down from his position. On Friday, Mayor Angela Locke confirmed the resignation of Chief Christopher Hale, adding to a series of departures from the local police force.

Mayor Locke revealed this news during a late-night statement at 9:21 p.m., noting a troubling trend of officers leaving the department in recent months. The departures seem to reflect a broader shift, as officers have moved to neighboring police departments. Specifically, one officer has joined the Decatur Police, another has transferred to the Mt. Zion Police, and a third has accepted a position with the Maroa Police Department.
