NORMAL, Ill. — As the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships approach, one standout runner from the Illinois State Redbirds is eager to replicate his remarkable indoor success.
Julian Baker, a sophomore hailing from Mt. Zion, is set to compete this weekend in Terre Haute, representing Illinois State following an impressive second year. Baker clinched titles in both the 5000-meter and 3000-meter races during the conference indoor championships. Throughout the outdoor season, he has consistently showcased his talent, earning accolades from coaches who commend his ability to push through when others falter.
“Now it’s about him gaining the confidence to compete not just against top Missouri Valley athletes, but also against some of the nation’s best,” explained Jeff Bozee, Redbird Director of Track and Field. “The Missouri Valley has a wealth of talented runners, and learning to compete with them is vital. But for Julian’s development, the next step is to extend that competitive edge to the broader NCAA stage.”
The competition kicks off on Saturday, May 16, with Indiana State playing host to the event.
