MOUNT ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — The Mount Zion community remembers Jack Brinkoetter on his birthday and “LIVE. LIKE. JACK. Day” in town.
Luke Williams, the mayor, had the idea to honor him this way after family friends approached him. They wanted to remind people of all the good things from Jack’s life and shine a light of positivity.
“It helps remind people who are going through tough times that the community is behind them and supports them and always will,” Williams said.
Mount Zion Intermediate School is honoring him during “Be Brave” week. Students are participating in various activities to honor Jack and support Charlie Spurlock. He was hurt in the accident and is still recovering.
“Kids have worn different socks like Charlie’s funny socks. Jack liked to dance, so we’re doing special dance opportunities for kids in our PE classes,” Randy Thacker, the school’s principal, said.
Williams said there will be more fundraisers to support the families this summer, but details are still in the works.
