MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — The Mt. Zion Braves are stepping onto the diamond this season with an exciting upgrade: a state-of-the-art turf field.
Prior to their home opener against Maroa-Forsyth, Mt. Zion proudly unveiled this new playing surface, marking the completion of a project that has been in the works for several months. The transformation was orchestrated by the Mt. Zion Field Building Committee and executed by the Dunn Company, based in Decatur.
With the installation of this modern field, the Braves are setting their sights on hosting postseason games, undeterred by unpredictable weather—a privilege that has benefited other schools in the area equipped with similar facilities. “Our aim is definitely to host regionals and sectionals,” shared Diann Durbin, Mt. Zion’s new athletic director. “We want to bring people to our community and school, and that’s a significant goal for us.”
The debut of the new field was marked by a triumph, as the Braves secured a 7-1 victory over Maroa-Forsyth. Junior Kellen Bollhorst shone in this opening match, contributing two home runs to the team’s success.
The field’s first game was also its first win, as Mt. Zion defeated Maroa-Forsyth 7-1, with junior Kellen Bollhorst scoring two home runs.
