Body found at Chevron on Laney Walker Blvd in Augusta, upgraded to murder investigation

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta University Police have responded to a local gas station in response to a deceased individual.

The body was found Tuesday at the Chevron on the 1500 block of Laney Walker Blvd, at the corner of 15th Street and Laney Walker Boulevard.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office and the Criminal Investigation Division have also responded to the scene.

Following the investigation, authorities say that this has now been upgraded to a murder investigation, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for the following suspect who is wanted for murder.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Taiwan Eutsay, 43, is wanted for murder. Eustay has been described to be 5’9″ and 195 pounds.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, and because of the proximity to nearby campuses, Augusta University Police and Paine College Police were present to provide receive updates and ensure the safety of area students.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says that the Augusta University Police were also able to provide useful information regarding this case and are currently assisting investigators.

“Our unhoused population remains an important part of our community, and our deputies within the Homeless Outreach Team work closely with them to ensure their safety and well-being just as we do for all residents. Every life matters, and our commitment is to protect and serve every individual in Richmond County. We want to thank the Augusta University Police Department for their partnership and quick response in assisting our investigators today. Their collaboration helps us keep both our students and the community safe,” Sheriff Gino Brantley stated.

According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, the body has been identified as Charlie Creech, 70, who was homeless and pronounced dead on the scene at 2:32 P.M.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
