CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation (CUSF) is organizing an event that they hope will bring the community together through music.
On Feb. 16, CUSF will host “We are the Schools Music Fest” at the City Center in Champaign.
The festival will feature bands with students, teachers and staff at Champaign and Urbana schools.
It’ll run from 1-7 p.m. and attendees will have the chance to hear 10 local bands, including:
- Mariachi Tigres de Urbana
- Bandoneon Massacre
- New Orleans Jazz Machine
- New Souls
- Church Street Ramblers
- Decadents
- Squirrel Movement
- Ther’Up.Y.
- The Yung Ones
- Modern Drugs
Pete Shungu, a teaching assistant professor in music education at U of I, will emcee the event. Shungu is also a member of the band Afro D and Global Soundwaves.
CUSF said that the money made at this event will help fund their grants which help to improve the “educational experiences of students and teachers” in the Champaign and Urbana school districts.
