MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 29-year-old woman remains in jail in Horry County accused of shooting a man who refused to pay her for sex, according to arrest warrants.

Myrtle Beach police arrested Kelsey Lynn Miller on Thursday after the shooting at the Polynesian Oceanfront Hotel at 1001 S. Ocean Boulevard. She’s charged with attempted murder, prostitution, possession of controlled substances and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Officers responded at about 3:40 a.m. Thursday to the 1000 block of S. Ocean Boulevard after getting a ShotSpotter alert about gunfire in the area of 9th Avenue S. and South Ocean Boulevard, a police report said. ShotSpotter is a sensor-based system that detects gunshots in real time and alerts law enforcement.

According to warrants, Miller and the man had been communicating on Reddit, Telegram and via text messages and agreed to meet at the motel. Once the man was inside the motel room, Miller asked “Where’s my money?”

The man told her he didn’t have any money and that he was not going to pay her for sex, the warrant said. Miller them replied, “If you don’t give me my money, I’ll go get my man.”

As the man turned to leave, the warrant said Miller shot him at point-blank range in the tricep area of his left arm.

When officers arrived, they found the man with an “improvised tourniquet on his upper left arm and blood on his hands,” a police report said. He was taken to the hospital, but no information about his condition was immediately available.

During the investigation, officers found eight pills that they later determined were Suboxone and a white powder that tested positive for fentanyl.

Police said a second person was arrested in connection with the case but their name has not been released.

Miller is being held without bond at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
