LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Months after an Amazon delivery driver was found dead inside a truck in Fruitland Park, investigators have disclosed what led to her death.
The incident was reported in August after a Lake County resident noticed an Amazon truck parked near his driveway for several hours and contacted authorities.
Firefighters arrived wearing gas masks because of concerns about potentially toxic substances. A nearby witness told News 6 that the driver was sprayed with a fire hose before paramedics began performing life-saving measures.
“Because they were worried about toxic chemicals, I remember they did use a fire hose to rinse her off to make sure there was nothing on her clothes or person,” the witness said. “But immediately after that, they were using life-saving measures.”
Deputies said the woman was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

On Friday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. The death was ruled accidental.
News 6 has requested a copy of the medical examiner’s report.
The station has also contacted Amazon for an updated statement about the driver’s death.
