HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. () – The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) held a ribbon cutting at the sheriff’s office on April 3 for the installation of a Narcan Vending Machine.
HCSO, in collaboration with the Hampton County Detention Center and the New Life Center, calls the installation of the machine a vital resource in Hampton County’s effort to combat the opioid crisis.
The vending machine was made possible by South Carolina Opioid Settlement Funds and is one of only three being installed at detention centers statewide.
It will allow individuals released from custody— and members of the general public to access free Narcan, a medication proven to reverse opioid overdoses and save lives.
The machine will be available in the Sheriff’s Office lobby during regular business hours. After-hours access will be available through Detention Center staff.
Each box of Narcan dispensed includes educational materials and resources for local outpatient treatment through the New Life Center.
