JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – In a heartwarming gesture, one of the drivers from the Food City 500 NASCAR race dedicated his Saturday to fostering community spirit and promoting pet adoption at the Washington County & Johnson City Animal Shelter.

Daniel Suarez, who races the No. 7 car, is a passionate animal enthusiast. When he’s not tearing up the racetrack, Suarez takes the opportunity to visit local shelters, keen to make a difference in the lives of animals needing homes.

His visits are not just about spending time with the lovable animals but also about shining a spotlight on the crucial work these shelters perform.

“What these animal shelters do is nothing short of amazing; it’s truly beautiful work,” Suarez remarked. “They play a vital role in helping the community by caring for these animals and inspiring people to adopt.”

In an interview with News Channel 11, Suarez shared his deep affection for animals, mentioning the numerous dogs his family cares for and the adopted cat he shares with his wife, underscoring his commitment to animal welfare.

“They’re always there to give you unconditional love,” Suarez said. “And that’s something that is very amazing. They always make me happy.”

As for Sunday’s race, Suarez said it is a difficult track and one of his favorites, even if he hasn’t had the best runs recently.

“I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with it because I used to be extremely good here and lately it’s been a little difficult,” said Suarez. “So I am really looking forward to turn things around and to show myself that I can win in these places.”

Suarez will start the Food City 500 in 13th position, +0.132 seconds off the pole leader, Ryan Blaney.
