Nationwide Recall Alert: Listeria Concerns Prompt Fresh Peach Withdrawal

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of two varieties of peaches grown in California due to potential contamination with listeria. These peaches have been distributed nationwide.

The recall affects fresh white, yellow, and “peppermint” peaches produced by Moonlight Companies. At Kroger stores, these peaches may also carry the Kroger brand label.

The affected fruits were available for purchase both individually and in multi-packs between September 16 and October 29, 2025.

Consumers should pay close attention to the PLU stickers on individually sold peaches, specifically numbers 4401 and 4044. For the multi-pack peaches, detailed lot numbers and UPC codes can be found in the FDA’s recall notice.

If your packages or stickers specify “Washington” or “Organic,” that fruit isn’t in the recall, the FDA said.

Listeriosis, or listeria, is a serious infection typically caused by eating food that contains the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, according to the CDC.

The FDA warns contracting listeria can lead to death in young children, elderly people or those with compromised immune systems.

Healthy people “may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea,” the recall states. Infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant people.

No illnesses from the peaches have been reported as of Oct. 29, the FDA said.
