Navigate Urbana's Road Closures: Your Ultimate Guide to CU Pride Fest 2023

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — In preparation for the CU Pride Fest, the City of Urbana has announced a series of street closures set to take place during the event.

The Urbana Public Works Department has granted a Special Event Permit to the United Pride Center of Champaign County for the 2025 Pride Fest. Scheduled for Saturday, October 25, several streets in the city will be temporarily closed to facilitate the festivities.

The closures will accommodate a variety of activities, including a vendor fair, and will occur from approximately 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the day of the event. Additionally, West Elm Street will be closed to traffic between South Cedar and South Race Streets from around noon to 8 p.m.

Race Street from Elm Street to approximately one block north of Main Street
Water Street between Broadway Avenue and Vine Street

Additionally, West Elm Street between South Cedar and South Race Streets will be closed from approximately noon to 8 p.m.

The fest will include a parade starting at 1 p.m. The following streets will be closed for the parade from 12:45 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.:

Illinois Street between Vine and Race Streets
Race Street between Illinois and Elm Streets
Elm Street from Cedar Street to Broadway Avenue
Broadway Avenue from Elm to Water Street

Roads and intersections on the parade route will be reopened as the last of the parade participants make their way through the area.

For the event, parking will not be permitted in City Lot 24 on Illinois Street and City Lots 1, 5 and 9 on Water Street from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate additional event area and parade staging. On-street parking on West California Avenue between Vine and Race Streets will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate MTD bus routes.

People in the area should expect delays in the area during the event on Saturday.
