CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fresh off a successful stint on the road, the Illinois men’s basketball team is preparing to host a formidable opponent that promises to test their recent winning streak.

On Saturday, December 13, the Illini will face off against Nebraska, a team that has been nothing short of dominant this season. The Huskers remain undefeated, boasting a perfect 10-0 record with impressive victories over notable teams such as Oklahoma, Kansas State, Creighton, and Wisconsin.

In their latest matchups, Nebraska showcased their prowess with a commanding 21-point victory against Creighton and a staggering 30-point triumph over Wisconsin. This formidable performance has been fueled by a trio of talented players consistently delivering double-digit performances on the scoreboard. Leading the charge is Reink Mast, a former standout from Bradley. Standing tall at 6-foot-10, the senior is averaging an impressive 18 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, making him a key player to watch.

For Illinois, maintaining their winning edge will likely depend on the performances of the Ivisic twins, who have demonstrated their ability to elevate the team’s play when at their best. As the Illini prepare to defend their home court, all eyes will be on these crucial contributors to see if they can rise to the occasion against a Nebraska squad that has shown no signs of slowing down.

Illinois has proven to be at its best when one or both of the Ivisic twins play at a high level.

In an Illinois victory against Tennessee, in Nashville, it was Tomislav Ivisic stepping up. He scored 16 points as the Illini beat the Volunteers. More recently, against Ohio State, it was Zvonimir Ivisic who impressed. He notched 13 points and eight rebounds as the Illini won by eight in Columbus, Ohio.

Illinois head coach Brad Underwood credits strength coach Adam Fletcher for Zvonimir Ivisic’s recent growth.

“[Zvonimir] came [to campus] at 220 pounds and now he’s 250,” Underwood said. “…Everybody knows that he’s a very, very good shooter. So, you pick and pop… He came up with a big block late, he had a big deflection of [Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton] late, as well. So, he’s gaining in confidence and I’m gaining in confidence with him on the court.”

Illinois lost in overtime to Nebraska, in Lincoln, in January of 2025.
