New Affidavit Sheds Light on Bristol Double Homicide: Unveiling Critical Details

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — A deeper look into the Nov. 23 double homicide in Bristol, Tenn., is revealed through court documents obtained by News Channel 11 on Thursday. The documents include on-the-scene accounts from two witnesses who informed a detective that the tragic shooting of three individuals was preceded by an argument.

The complaint affidavit against Elijah Campbell, filed by Bristol Police Department Detective Nicholas Brooks, reveals that on Nov. 23, Brooks was called to a scene initially reported as a triple homicide at 108 Lily Street. Upon his arrival, Brooks found Deonte Wright deceased in the parking lot.

The second victim, Kevin Collin, a resident of the home, had been rushed to the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Reports indicated that his condition was grave, with family members confirming last week that Collin remained in critical condition.

Inside the residence, Brooks discovered Elexus (Lexi) Coleman, who had also been fatally shot.

In light of this tragic event, the Bristol Police Department is appealing to the public for any information related to the double homicide case.

The woman told Brooks that she was in the room as one of the men at the party was arguing with Wright, and that Campbell “pulled out a black handgun with an extended magazine, and shot (Wright),” the affidavit states. The witness said Campbell then shot Collin.

The witness said she then heard shots being fired after Campbell went up a ramp, but she did not see them. She told Brooks she then ran inside the home to wait for the police to arrive.

A second witness, who was in a relationship with another victim, according to the affidavit, said she had been staying at Collin’s home for a few nights. She told Brooks she was in a group of people who ran into Campbell and three other males at a gas station, then eventually met Coleman at another convenience store before the entire group went back to Collin’s home.

The woman told Brooks she got into an argument with Collin because he believed she was flirting with another man inside the home. The witness then went outside to find Wright.

When she got outside, the affidavit states that the witness saw Campbell and three other men arguing with Wright. She told Brooks she went back inside the home to get Collin, and that he went outside to check on the group that was arguing.

The woman told Brooks she heard gunshots from outside, then saw Campbell and “a shorter black male with a gold chain” coming up the ramp to go inside the house. The witness said Campbell had a pistol and rifle in his hands.

Brooks wrote that the second witness described Campbell shooting into the home, and that she saw Coleman fall to the ground. The witness reportedly tried to shut the door but was unable to.

According to the affidavit, Campbell put a gun to the witness’s head but did not shoot her after she begged him not to.

The witness said once she got the door shut and locked, she heard Campbell say to her, “You need to take this gun before I go to jail.” The witness then called 911 and Campbell fled the scene, according to the affidavit.

Detectives reportedly found one black Glock with an extended magazine. It was found covered up near the doorway, where Coleman was shot, according to the affidavit.

Campbell, 18, surrendered to police in Bristol, Va. Nov. 23 and as of Tuesday was awaiting extradition to Tennessee. He’s currently scheduled for an initial court appearance in Bristol General District Court in Bristol, Va. Dec. 11.
