WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) announced a new way for anonymous tips to be submitted to authorities.

The tip411 app allows community members to send text tips anonymously to the sheriff’s office regarding suspicious activity or crimes, the WSCO stated in a news release.

Officers can then respond in real-time to the text, creating a two-way conversation.

“This is a great tool for the citizens who are uncomfortable reporting criminal activity,” Sheriff Blake Andis said in the release. “Now, they can do so anonymously, helping keep our community safe.”

Anyone with a cell phone can use the new system by texting WCSOVA with their message to 847411.

Several other police offices and departments in the Tri-Cities region have implemented the use of the tip411 system, including Bristol, Virginia and Greeneville.
