In Champaign, Illinois, an innovative fundraising initiative from the Fraternal Order of Police is making strides in supporting retired service dogs by covering their medical expenses. This past weekend marked a significant milestone as they hosted their inaugural fundraising event in Savoy, successfully raising thousands of dollars to aid these deserving canines.
The event, known as Howl R-X, featured a chili cook-off where judges evaluated 15 different recipes to crown a winner. The funds collected from this event are earmarked for the healthcare of retired law enforcement service dogs, which can be a substantial financial burden, ranging between $1,500 and $4,000 annually per dog.
