In a recent development, over 320,000 vehicles produced by Nissan North America, Inc. are being recalled due to a potential engine failure hazard, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA announced that Nissan North America is recalling a total of 323,917 Rogue models from the years 2023 to 2025. These vehicles are equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5-liter variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines, which may experience elevated temperatures leading to the degradation of engine oil. This degradation poses a risk of the engine bearings seizing and becoming damaged.

(WHTM) – More than 320,000 vehicles manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. have been recalled due to an engine failure risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The NHTSA said Nissan North America is recalling 323,917 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines because increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, potentially causing the engine bearings to seize and become damaged.

This could cause engine failure, leading to a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash, per the NHTSA. Only 0.6% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to have the defect, according to the recall report.

The NHTSA said dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle for free. Dealers will also inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine if necessary.

Owner letters will be mailed on March 27, 2026.

On the company’s website, Nissan has also been advising owners of older model Nissan Versas, Maximas, Pathfinders and Sentras of a “do not drive” warning for models spanning 2001 to 2012.

The Takata airbags in certain vehicles are defective and could explode in the event of a crash, “shooting metal pieces at the driver and passengers, causing serious injury or death.”

Nissan encourages eligible owners to take their vehicle to an authorized Nissan dealer for a free replacement.
