BUCKSNORT, Tenn. (WKRN) — The day after an explosion destroyed a Tennessee explosives manufacturing plant, officials say no survivors have been found and the 16 people who were missing after the blast are presumed to be dead.
The explosion happened Friday morning at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant located in Bucksnort, a small town along the Hickman/Humphreys county line. The plant was located roughly 60 miles southwest of Nashville.
“I can tell you that more than 300 people have been through almost every square inch of this facility, and at this time we’ve recovered no survivors,” Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said Saturday.
Identifying any possible remains has been slow-going, according to Davis, due to the level of destruction at the scene.
In the meantime, explosive specialists with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are working to ensure that all dangerous material is cleared from the area.
An ATF National Response Team is expected to arrive at the facility on Saturday afternoon to begin its investigation into the cause of the explosion. Davis said he believes there’s no further threat to the public.
