BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A North Collins man was killed last week in Florida and now his children said they’re left with the question of why their father died.

Ross Coyle, a master cabinet maker from North Collins, was a man who loved his family, faith and work. Ross’ family said the 74-year-old would spend half the year with his wife in Port Richey, F.L.

According to law enforcement paperwork, on Jan. 27, Ross was at the home of John Hainlin in Port Richey for dinner and drinks. Coyle’s family said Hainlin was a friend of Ross.

The document said Hainlin told law enforcement that Ross left for the evening. Hainlin then claimed he located what he believed to be an intruder inside of his home and shot him. Coyle was later declared dead at the hospital.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WIVB News 4 that Hainlin was charged with murder.

The aftermath of this has left Ross’ family with more questions than answers. They said Coyle was the foundation of their family and primary caretaker for his wife, Maria.

“We’re trying to put, not only the pieces of our family back together, but what is the next step for my mother?” said Rachel Brooks, Coyle’s daughter. “Relocation for doctors, for hospital visits, ongoing care treatment, the time incurred for finding new doctors and the support. And of course, she needs a full time caregiver and a place that she can now call home.”

The family launched a GoFundMe to help with those expenses.

Coyle’s children said their parents’ 53rd wedding anniversary was the day after he died.

“Our god brought us together for a reason,” his wife wrote to him in a card. “I love you so very much.”

His children said that their father was the walking example of what it meant to live, lead and love authentically.
