MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Thirty-nine firefighters and eight fire suppression units were counted among Marion County Fire Rescue’s response to a burning home early Friday.

Units were dispatched around 1:17 a.m. to the 4900 block of SE 169th Avenue, where a 911 caller reported the 3,500-square-foot home was on fire, the fire department said on social media.

The first firefighters to arrive — from MCFR Lynne Station #4, getting to the scene before 1:30 a.m. — reported the home was approximately 60% involved, with flames venting the roof. Battalion Chief #2 assumed command and directed incoming units from South Marion Station #6, Weirsdale Station #27 and Volunteer Station #26, the post states.

Crews deployed hose lines to fight the flames — with a total of four water tankers assigned to the scene — while firefighters from Anthony Station #1, Rolling Greens Station #28 and Silver Springs Shores Station #17 set out to battle the blaze, the post states.

Conditions deteriorated at the scene, prompting the firefighters to take a defensive posture, order an evacuation of the structure and take full account of units on scene, according to the post.

The fire was eventually brought under control and the fire department’s Fire Prevention Investigator was called to the scene, according to the post. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, the post states.
