GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – A student is OK after a mishap at Girard’s Prom Promise event on Thursday.

Girard Fire Chief Jim Petruzzi says the teenage boy was an actor lying on the ground when a police officer bumped him with a cruiser.

Bryan O’Hara, superintendent of Girard City Schools, provided the following statement regarding the incident:

“I want to inform you that during this morning’s “Mock Crash Simulation” at Girard High School—an annual event that highlights the dangers of drinking and driving—a participating student sustained a minor injury. The student is receiving appropriate medical attention, and their family has been notified. Additionally, support has been made available for students and staff.”

The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but Petruzzi says he is alright.

The Prom Promise event was aimed at showing students what could happen if they drive impaired ahead of prom. As part of the event, the Girard Fire and Police departments conducted a mock crash at the high school, and about 200 seniors and juniors attended the event.

Girard’s prom is Friday evening.
