BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Saturday, an expert in cattle management journeyed from Oklahoma to Sullivan County to educate young livestock handlers on the optimal methods for animal care.

The interactive workshop, held at the Ron Ramsey Agricultural Center, was organized by the Sullivan Cattlemen Association. Renowned cattle expert Kirk Stierwalt of Stierwalt Cattle & Clinics shared insightful advice and techniques with local youth involved in cattle handling.

Jerry Baker, a member of the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association Board of Directors representing Washington County, highlighted to News Channel 11 the value of such courses in nurturing skills that can transform a hobby into a fulfilling career.

“It instructs them on effective cattle handling and maintaining composure around the animals, much like they do at home,” Baker explained. “Caring for cattle involves daily feeding and attention. This isn’t a once-a-week task; my grandfather was dedicated to working with and showing cattle three to four days each week. It’s a significant commitment.”

The final session of this educational event is scheduled for Sunday.
