KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — In a highly anticipated matchup, Tennessee hosted Oklahoma for only the second time ever in Knoxville on Saturday. The spectacle, known as the “dark mode” game, concluded with the Sooners emerging victorious, defeating the Volunteers 33-27.
Tennessee started the game on a high note, launching an impressive offensive drive that culminated in a 5-yard touchdown pass to Mike Matthews. This early score gave the Vols a 7-0 lead, igniting excitement in the stands.
However, the advantage was short-lived. As Tennessee’s offense pressed into Oklahoma territory, a critical fumble caused by one of the Sooners’ three first-quarter sacks turned the tide. Oklahoma’s defensive lineman, Mason Thomas, seized the opportunity and returned the fumble 71 yards, leveling the score at 7-7.
