SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The 24-Hour Play Fest is back for its third year and it is just what is says it is. Savannah’s creative community will come together to write, rehearse and perform 10-minute plays in one 24-hour period.

Chris Bass, the executive director of the Savannah Performance Alliance, says the experience brings people together and gets creative juices flowing. “After [the crews] introduce themselves to each other, they pair off with directors and writers. They decide on what they want their casts to be for their specific plays. And then, late that evening, the directors will head off to sleep and the writers will start writing from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Each one will write about a ten-page, ten-minute script.”

Rehearsals start early in the morning and go until 7:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., it’s showtime!

Each creative team has free reign on what kind of play they want to produce but there are three prompts each have to follow: a character, a specific line of dialog and a prop. This year the character is a judge, the line of dialog is “I want to say ‘yes,’ but ‘no.’ and the prop is a roll of paper towels.

All this takes place Saturday, Sept. 27 at Asbury Memorial Church in Savannah.

Tickets to this year’s 24-Hour Play Fest are $10. All proceeds benefit the Savannah Performance Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in Savannah.
