BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A man was arrested and another is wanted by police after allegedly burglarizing a gas station in Bristol, Virginia early Tuesday morning.

A release from the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the Shell gas station on Lee Highway near Exit 10 of Interstate 81 at around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, police found significant damage to the front door, including shattered glass and evidence of forced entry, the release said. A female witness reportedly told police that a male suspect had admitted to her that he broke into the store and was last seen walking south on Lee Highway.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers, located the suspect near the Evergreen Motel and identified him as Josh Adam Cordle, 34, of Damascus. The release said Cordle was found in possession of stolen items and made “several unsolicited admissions regarding the break-in.”

Cordle was taken into custody and transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without incident, according to the release.

Cordle was charged with the following:

  • Statutory Burglary, in violation of § 18.2-91 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Unlawfully Deface or Destroy Any Property, in violation of § 18.2-137 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Petit Larceny, in violation of § 18.2-96 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Intoxicated in Public, in violation of § 18.2-388 of the Code of Virginia.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, the sheriff’s office said Cordle’s involvement was confirmed. A second male suspect was revealed, as well, who was observed entering the store after the initial break-in and stealing numerous packs of cigarettes, the release said.

The second suspect was identified as Anthony James Zampagna, 28, of Johnson City, Tenn. Arrest warrants were issued for Zampagna for charges that include the following:

  • Statutory Burglary, in violation of § 18.2-91 of the Code of Virginia
  • Petit Larceny, in violation of § 18.2-96 of the Code of Virginia

Zampagna remains at large, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office said anyone with information on Zampagna’s whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 or the Washington County, VA Sheriff’s Office at 276-676-6000.
