SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Club Car Championship officially kicked off on Wednesday with an opening ceremony and the inaugural tee shot, setting the stage for the tournament’s commencement on Thursday.
While players participated in the pro-am event throughout Wednesday, organizers found a brief window to host the formal ceremony at the tenth tee, seamlessly integrating it between groups on the course.
The ceremony, lasting approximately 15 minutes, featured a poignant display as members of the armed forces presented the colors, accompanied by a stirring rendition of the national anthem.
Jonathan Morrison had the honor of hitting the tournament’s first tee shot. Despite the presence of an audience and cameras, Morrison expressed confidence, unfazed by the attention.
“In my role as a Warrant Officer Five in the Army, I’m accustomed to briefing generals and high-ranking officers regularly,” Morrison shared. “Naturally, I wanted to avoid a bad shot, but nobody’s perfect. I gave it my best, and for that, I’m grateful.”
Tournament Director Brit Donahue said incorporating the military with the Club Car Championship makes him proud.
The pro-am concludes Thursday evening, and the official competition in a 156-player field of the Korn Ferry Tour even starts Thursday at 7:20 a.m.
