Orlando Patrol Car Hits E-Bike Rider, Causing Serious Injuries

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 60-year-old man riding an e-bike suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon when he was struck by a patrol car in Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at Rio Grande Avenue South and Grand Street, troopers said in a news release.

According to the release, the e-bike rider was traveling ahead of the patrol vehicle, and both were headed north on Rio Grande Avenue.

The deputy was responding to a call with the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren activated as the vehicle moved into the left-turn lane.

Troopers said the e-bike rider suddenly moved left and into the path of the patrol car.

The deputy was not injured. The rider, identified only as a 60-year-old Melbourne man, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities have not released any additional information.
