OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – With the local drought index soaring, a burn ban has been instituted for unincorporated areas of Osceola County, according to a news release.

Put in place Sunday, the burn ban will be lifted as weather and vegetation conditions improve, the release states.

The county stated it was responding to its Keetch-Byram Drought Index reaching over 500. The ban applies to all types of outside burning, such as open fire pits, campfires and yard debris, according to the release.
