OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Osceola County is set to enhance its traffic monitoring efforts by installing additional red-light cameras before the year concludes. This move will further expand the county’s network of automated enforcement systems, which is already significant in Central Florida.

Gary Yeager, the Traffic Operations Director for Osceola County, revealed that new cameras will be placed at key intersections such as Narcoossee Road at Jack Brack Road, County Road 192 at Cross Prairie Drive, and Poinciana Boulevard at Oren Brown Avenue. He highlighted the collaboration with the sheriff’s office to pinpoint intersections with the highest number of traffic violations.

“We partner with the sheriff’s office to identify which intersections have the most tickets being issued,” explained Yeager.

Currently, Florida has red-light cameras installed at 167 intersections, with nearly half of these situated in the Central Florida area. While county officials assert that these cameras help curb speeding and generate revenue, there is ongoing debate about their impact on traffic safety.

Data from the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FHSMV) for 2024 indicates an increase in crashes at camera-monitored locations, with 17,903 incidents recorded before installation and 18,615 afterward, suggesting a rise in collisions following the deployment of these systems.

Yeager says enforcement discourages speeding and red-light running and is successful in the county. According to the county, ticketing revenue for the most recent fiscal year totaled about $511,000; roughly half of that sum is remitted to the state while the remainder stays with the county.

“The people who are violating the speed limit are going through the red lights. They’re the ones paying for this,” Yeager said. “They fund it. ”

Osceola County officials said the new cameras will be operational by year’s end, and that the sheriff’s office will continue to provide input on enforcement priorities as the program expands.

Some cameras will be at new locations, while others will be relocated due to construction projects.

Here is the list of where all the cameras will be shortly:
