An escalating dispute in Indialantic, Florida, has residents on edge as tensions rise between a homeowner and her neighbors. The community is voicing serious grievances concerning the condition of her property and her reported behavior.
Susan Brennan, who owns a lot adjacent to the house in question on Atlantic Avenue, has been particularly vocal about the situation. She claims her neighbor, Sonja Kopriva, lives under problematic conditions in a house lacking running water.
“She resides on the front stoop, uses a bucket for bodily functions, and subsequently spreads it around the area,” Brennan explained to the Indialantic Community Correspondent, James Sparvero.
In light of these complaints, Sparvero visited Kopriva’s residence to gather her perspective on the matter. However, communication proved challenging as neighbors had documented video evidence purportedly showing rats in her window, further complicating the already tense situation.
One of them shared video they said showed rats in Kopriva’s window.
“What’s the problem here, James? Because I don’t need you here,” Kopriva said.
The homeowner was seen sitting on her stoop with a man.
“These people are harassing us bad,” he told Sparvero.
Kopriva said she wishes her neighbors would leave her alone.
The sheriff’s office said it is, more or less, because Kopriva hasn’t been caught breaking any criminal laws.
“I have to come clean up feces so the neighbors don’t have to smell it,” Brennan said.
She bought the empty lot next door six years ago but said she hasn’t built a house yet because she doesn’t want to live next to Kopriva.“These people just moved out,” Brennan pointed across the street. “They couldn’t deal with it anymore. What we just don’t understand is how the authorities ignore us and let her live there.”
Sparvero also asked Brevard County about any possible code violations.
The county said it’s working to answer his request.
Kopriva said a deputy told her he’s going to bring a dumpster to her house to help get rid of the trash.
She said she thinks that will make neighbors a little happier.
