A Palmetto resident was escorted off an American Airlines flight at Tampa International Airport following a remark deemed a potential security risk.

The incident occurred on American Airlines Flight 3203, scheduled to depart for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The Airport Operations Center was alerted by the flight crew at approximately 7:13 p.m. as the aircraft was preparing for takeoff.

According to reports, a male passenger made a comment to another traveler, which was interpreted as a security threat to the flight.

In response, the plane was directed to a specific area on the airfield, where Airport Police boarded and removed the individual in question.

Subsequently, all remaining passengers were transported back to the main terminal for TSA rescreening. The aircraft itself underwent a thorough inspection by the Airport Police Department and was cleared to return to the gate, confirming it was safe for continued operations.

FBI personnel interviewed the man removed from the plane, and he was released pending further investigation.

American Airlines released the following statement:

Prior to departure from Tampa (TPA), American Airlines flight 3203 was met by law enforcement due to a possible security issue. We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding.

American Airlines said the flight departed for Washington, D.C. this morning.
