PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — On Wednesday evening, a significant community meeting took place to discuss a proposed rezoning ordinance that could transform 110 acres of farmland. The proposed development, facilitated by SN Hillside LLC, aims to establish an “employment center” in the area adjacent to Bowman Road and Milestone Drive, located at the boundary between Hernando and Pasco counties.
Bob Miller, owner of the neighboring Wright Ranch, expressed his concerns emphatically, saying, “They want the money. Then once they get it and they make their bucks, they’re going to say see you later. Have a nice day. It ain’t going to happen under our watch.”
The proposed change would shift the land’s designation from agricultural to commercial zoning. The development plans include constructing office spaces and possibly adding retail shops and housing, as outlined by a spokesperson for the developers.
Developers’ attorney, Clarke Hobby, highlighted the benefits, stating, “It would create an area with a lot of employment. People that could live on site and have some retail to take care of their needs.”
The meeting, held at the Elks Lodge in Brooksville near the prospective development site, saw a turnout of hundreds of concerned residents eager to learn more about the project.
“We will be loud until we are heard,” said another resident who spoke at the meeting.
Pasco County Commissioners did not take part in Wednesday’s meeting. The gathering was created to give residents a chance to speak with developers ahead of a planned first reading of the ordinance. No date has been set for that at this time.
