PHOTOS: 10-foot alligator pulled from storm drain in Florida

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — An alligator measuring over 10 feet long was pulled from a storm drain in South Florida on Saturday.

According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, a person walking by noticed the gator stuck in the drain in the area of 2857 NW 27th Street in Cape Coral.

Trappers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued the gator, using the winch on their brush truck to lift the drain lid. Officials removed the gator from the drain and hoisted it onto their truck.

Once FWC secured the beast, they measured it at a staggering 10 feet and 6 inches long.

The photos show the alligator’s head peeping out of the culvert. FWC trappers are seen lifting the lid, pulling the reptile out, and loading him onto the vehicle.

“Because of his size he will be taken to a gator farm to live out his life and possibly be part of a breeding program,” the fire department said.

The FWC reminds residents that if they encounter and are concerned about an alligator, to call their hotline at 866-392-4286. Calls should only be made if the gator is over 4 feet long and poses to threat to the community.
