COCOA, Fla. – A tragic accident in Cocoa claimed the life of a woman and left a driver hospitalized early Friday afternoon, as confirmed by local police.
Authorities stated that they were alerted to the scene at 12:55 p.m. by multiple reports of a pickup truck colliding with two pedestrians before crashing into a building located around 300 Brevard Ave.
Emergency responders arrived to find a 25-year-old woman unresponsive on the ground. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The man accompanying the woman declined medical assistance at the scene, according to officials. However, the 64-year-old driver of the truck was hospitalized for treatment, as per the investigators’ reports.

“Preliminary findings indicate the driver may have suffered an unknown medical episode, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, a 2016 white Dodge Ram 1500,” the release reads.
According to the department, witnesses reported that the truck had clipped the sidewalk, struck the pedestrians and ultimately crashed into the building at Brevard Avenue.
As such, Brevard Avenue has been closed between State Road 520 and Harrison Street as investigators continue to look into the crash.
Meanwhile, the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse — located near the scene of the crash — announced that all Playhouse staff members and volunteers were safe.
“Moments like these remind us how precious each day is and how grateful we are for the safety and care of our community,” Playhouse officials wrote.
