CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Lincoln Fire Protection District worked on rescue drills last week.

During their district-wide training, they focused on improving their VEIS skills — vent, enter, isolate and search. It’s meant to quickly and efficiently rescue anyone trapped in a structure.

In this training exercise, the crews simulated setting a ladder for rescue, breaking a window and entering a room on the second floor from the ladder. Then, they had to isolate the room by closing the door, completing a search, and rescuing an individual. The drill is completed after after the individual has been safely brought down the ladder.

The fire protection district thanked the Charleston Fire Department for allowing them to use their training facility for this exercise.

Soon enough however, Lincoln’s fire crews will have a new station of their own. Back in October, WCIA reported that a new station would be built on Odd Fellow and Old State Roads just outside of Mattoon.

The new space will be more than 5,000 square feet, and closer to the city of Mattoon. Construction of the station was scheduled to be completed in May.
