AUGUSTA, Ga. – In a significant boost to local communities, Piedmont Augusta announced on Wednesday that it will distribute $2 million in community impact funds to 44 nonprofit organizations. This financial support aims to bolster services provided to residents in Augusta and its neighboring areas.

Gene McManus, the chairman of the Piedmont Augusta Board, highlighted the origins of this initiative. He explained that as part of the affiliation agreement between Piedmont and the former University Health Care System, the commitment was made to allocate $2 million annually over a decade to nonprofits capable of making a measurable impact on health needs. These needs are outlined in Piedmont’s Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy for its Augusta Hub.

“A key factor in the decision for University Health Care System to align with Piedmont was our mutual dedication to enhancing prevention, population health, and care accessibility,” McManus stated during the awards ceremony at the HUB for Community Innovation Augusta. “Since our partnership with Piedmont, our perspective has expanded to include not only medical care but also emotional, dental health, and crucial social determinants like homelessness, education, unemployment, and food insecurity. We have become acutely aware of the health disparities in our community and are committed to partnering with organizations that can effectively address these issues and ensure equitable access to quality care.”

McManus further noted that the selected organizations are situated in Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, and Aiken counties and extend their influence across Piedmont Augusta’s service regions. Each has demonstrated a strong ability to tackle health needs and social determinants, aligning with Piedmont Augusta’s 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy.
