LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — Teachers in Pinellas County could soon see an average pay increase of 7.79%, officials said Tuesday.

The Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association (PCTA) and Pinellas County Schools on Monday reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, which includes salary increases for teachers and bonuses for other school employees.

Instructional teachers will receive an annual salary increase ranging from 5.07% to 9.26% if the contract receives final approval.

Several other school employees will also see updated supplemental adjustments, supported by a voter-approved referendum, officials said.

That includes a $600 bonus for elementary school safety patrol employees, a $1,500 bonus for middle school band directors, and a $6,000 bonus for head coaches of varsity football teams.

Additionally, school employees could have their monthly health care premium costs reduced with plan changes under the contract agreement.

The three-year agreement will be presented for ratification by PCTA members and for School Board approval in October.

“This agreement reflects the collaborative spirit of the bargaining process, strengthening the partnership between the district and PCTA,” a joint news release said. “Together, we’ve developed a contract that provides meaningful support for instructional employees while ensuring the salary structure remains fiscally responsible for the district.”
